The Most Sacred Shrine of Mt. Fuji

Yesterday, I stopped by the most sacred Shrine of Mt. Fuji - Fujisan Hongu Sengentaisha.  It is said to have been established in year 806.

Mt. Fuji seen from the great Torii of the shrine.

Second Torii to of the shrine.

The gate to the shrine.

Honmiya - the main building - the current one was built per order of Tokugawa Ieyasu after winning the Battle of Sekigahara.

Beautiful chrysanthemum is in season.

The main building seen from side - very unique structure.

A statue of a Samurai.

Water from Mt. Fuji flows out - it is of course drinkable.

Wakutamaike Pond - a special natural monument.  In olden days, climbers of the sacred mountain cleansed themselves before taking the challenge.

Water coming pouring into the pond.

A nice bridge of the pond.

Ducks.

The lava flow from Mt. Fuji eruption of 10,000 years ago stopped here.

A beautiful view of Mt. Fuji seen from an expressway rest area.
